US Grade 9 - 12
This is the third quarter of Algebra 2. This course is rigorous and should only be taken by students who have successfully completed the first semester of Alg. 2. This class is best for self-motivated students who like math and will work hard both in and outside of class. Students will expand upon the skills they learned in Algebra 1. Graphing calculators will be utilized (we will use Desmos.com) which is a free resource. We will study three units this quarter: Radical Functions, Exponents & Logs, and Rational Functions. Topics to be covered in Algebra 2: Quarter 3 Week 1: Operations with Radicals Week 2: Solving Radical Equations & Graphing Square & Cube Root Functions Week 3: Inverse Functions & Exponential Functions Week 4: Logarithms Week 5: Logarithm Equations & Natural Log Week 6: Operations with Rational Expressions Week 7: Rational Expressions Applications & Reciprocal Function Week 8: Graphing Rational Functions, Solving Rational Equations Week 9: Review Material will be presented in a straightforward "I do, we do, you do" approach. Students will first see a detailed example before working problems with instructor guidance before solving problems on their own. The students will be given opportunities to try the skills in class with instructor guidance and then will practice on their own after class. Required homework will be assigned after each class session and will take approximately 45 minutes to complete daily (2-4 hours a week). Answer keys will be posted to the homework assignments so students may assess their own progress. Optional quizzes and tests will also be assigned throughout the course. A final grade can be assigned at parent/guardian request.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I teach mathematics classes geared for students in grades 6-12 with a particular focus Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2.
After earning a B.A. in Mathematics and M.A.T. (Master's in the Art of Teaching) from James Madison University, I taught Pre-Algebra and Algebra I in the public school system of Virginia. I left the classroom in 2015 to stay home with my two young children. I still hold a current teaching license in the state of Virginia and have a true love for teaching math.
Math is often seen as intimidating to students and I strive to take that stigma away. My classes will be straightforward math lessons which will have the students learning through the "I do, we do, you do" approach. I will show several examples of a concept then have the students help me with several problems before trying problems on their own. It is my hope to make math both easier and more interesting by tying in real-world applications when possible.
In my spare time I enjoy reading, cross stitching, and crochet.
