Class Experience

US Grade 7 - 11
To start off these sessions, I will evaluate which Algebra skills need practice and instruction so that you confidently enter Algebra 2. After over 30 years of teaching, I have witnessed that most concepts are learned over time, with review. Few students are going to retain algebraic skills after completing one single unit. This course gives that extra boast that most students need to help concepts and skills go into their long term memory and become a part of their problem-solving skill set.

As an instructor, my strength is in strong explanations. After teaching many students I have learned how to make the instruction understandable to diverse students. I am an enthusiastic teacher and I strive to encourage both reserved and outgoing students. I currently teach in-person classes of Algebra 1 & 2 and Geo-Trig as well local and Outschool tutoring. I also offer SAT prep classes.

Topics will included (but are not limited to) the following:
Evaluating expressions
Algebraic properties
Exponents and radicals
Rational expressions (Algebraic fractions)
Solving equations and systems of equations (including decimals and fractions)
Absolute value
Factoring and the Quadratic Equation
Graphing lines and linear equations.
Learning Goals
Students will obtain a strong foundation in the skills needed for success in Algebra 2.

Parental Guidance
Student will be able to use a Kahoot Code which I provide to practice what they are learning. This does not require an account. They may use their first name only or a nickname which they tell me. The student will see a math question and choose a multiple choice answer. I will see their results. This provides feedback for the student and for me.

I have been teaching since I began tutoring children when I was in high school. My strength is in the “explaining.” I am a certified math teacher with over 30 years of teaching experience in public, private, and homeschool settings, as well as one-on-one tutoring. I have a BS in Mathematics Education and a MS in Educational Technology and Online Learning. I have six years experience teaching math online. Many students have the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in mathematics, but they need help recognizing when to use each skill. My goal is to give students strategies to help them identify the type of skill they need to successfully complete unique problems. I want to see them smile when they realize they “got it.”My husband has stuck by my side for 30 years and we have three wonderful adult children. I love students and teaching and look forward to meeting your child.
