Class Experience

Please refer to the syllabus for the whole 1A course (keep in mind this course is just for the first quarter). Successful completion of mods 1-9 will make a student eligible for the next quarter (mods 10-18)...there are 36 mods in the course. A certificate of completion will be given for each quarter, but if a student completes all 4 quarters, will receive an additional certificate signifying the completion of the course.

All assignments will be due at the end of the week (Sunday night at midnight). The specific due dates will be in your google classroom.

I have taught Algebra for over 20 years. I have taught online courses in addition to having my own public school teaching position in Pennsylvania and Maryland.
Homework includes 30 questions per week focused on the mod content, along with the edpuzzle video quizzes in which students are allowed to use their notes for help. At the end of each quarter, students will receive a certificate of completion. There are weekly sessions available for homework help.

***There is an additional course offered specifically for homework help for 1A (this is listed in my available classes). This is optional since it is at an additional charge per week. There must be at least 2 students enrolled in this course. If not, students can sign up for the "one on one tutoring sessions" that are listed in my list of classes that I offer.
The binder for the 1A course will be given at that time for the first quarter. Students can download and prindt off the binder for notetaking and for doing the assignments. There will be a virtual classroom pdf which will have other additional resources (like a desmos fraction calculator and formula sheet). If students would like their own calculator, it is recommended for 1A to have a fraction calculator if the student struggles with fraction concepts.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
After the completion of each quarter, students will receive a certificate of completion meaning they have "passed" that quarter. Passing means that their assignments, quizzes, and final test will have a minimum of 60%. A letter grade will be issued on the certificate.
No live meetings, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.

This is the information on parental consent:
This school year, students will be using Edpuzzle as a complementary education tool
that will allow them to watch video lessons in class or at home and complete
assignments related to these lessons. The use of this web-based software and
application is intended to further engage students and also to better identify each of
their learning processes.
Edpuzzle can be used through two types of accounts: teacher and student accounts.
Student accounts and information related to them is stored completely privately and
is only accessible to us as your children’s teachers. With their Edpuzzle accounts,
students will watch video lessons, respond to questions to evaluate their
understanding of the subject and get feedback from their teacher regarding their
The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) protects the online privacy of
children under the age of 13 and requires web-based service providers as Edpuzzle to
obtain parental consent prior to the collection, use, and disclosure of that child's
personal information. Due to COPPA’s requirements and just like any other web- or
cloud-based educational tool, Edpuzzle requires that schools obtain parental consent
to set up Edpuzzle accounts on students’ behalf and allow students under the age of
13 to access and use those accounts.
If your child is under 13, we need your consent to create your child’s student account
on their behalf. By signing up for this course, you are thereby giving consent.
To learn more about Edpuzzle, please visit their website at and
consult their Privacy Policy and Terms of Use at and, respectively.
Thank you!
The coursework for each quarter is a printable resource. Students will need to upload their assignments to the platform, so printing the materials is mandatory. It will also help them to take notes from the videos to go through the content. I use edpuzzle for the videos and video quizzes so that I can monitor student progress through the content. I can see what parts of the videos they have watched, and which questions they miss.

About Me

I have been teaching algebra for over 20 years! I love teaching and helping students be more successful. I understand things like math anxiety and struggling learners, so I take a "small skills" approach to teaching. This means that instead of...
