Algebra 1 Topic 4 | Boom! Nailed It! | Plot a Line on Graph Fast | Bonus: Linear Systems of Equations (Ongoing)
Believe you can do it! 25-minutes, twice-a-week to get fast at plotting lines on a graph using slope, intercept (y-intercept and x-intercept), point, standard form linear equation, point-slope equation, y=mx+b, slope-intercept equation, and rise over run. We also cover linear systems of equations and linear inequalities.

Your learner is going to love this! It's a work session with other students where the goal is to really understand and master linear algebra through weekly practice of the concepts, exercises, and techniques. Your learner is going to love this! The work sessions with other students have the goal really understanding and and mastering linear algebra through weekly practice of the concepts, exercises, and techniques. Before I show you how your learner can be proficient with linear algebra...
At the end of this course, your learner will be able to say, "I can plot any linear equation you give me on a coordinate plane with confidence".
I've been certified in the public schools for teaching math in middle and high schools. I received additional certified training for gifted and talented learners. I taught math for sixteen years and I've been a personal SAT tutor for seven years. My students have typically raised their scores between 100 and 300 points. As a chemical engineer and project management professional in the world of business consulting and information technology consulting, I've completed over five levels of college calculus and applied mathematics and used these math and computing skills throughout my career. The students I have taught had varying learning abilities that ranged from one with pronounced learning disabilities to gifted and talented. When it came to PSAT's and SAT's, each of them with impressive improvements in their scores. It can be done! I used a focused approach. We honed in on trouble areas, really understood the underlying math concept, and drilled for mastery.
No homework will be assigned for this class.
1 file available upon enrollmentStudents should also have a pencil, and graph paper. I would prefer that no calculator is used for this class. It is not required, but if your student would like to collaborate with the class by writing on the screen, it might be worth your while to invest in a stylus pad. These used to be expensive but are quickly becoming more affordable. I have students work through problems together. Usually the student dictates to me what they are thinking and I write their solutions on the screen real time so that the class is working together. If you student would like to do his/her own writing on the screen, these stylus pen/pad sets are a great idea!
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
The learner's progress is assessed by how well the learner participates in the interactions during class.
50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Parents should make sure their learners are ready to dig deep into linear Algebra. The course assumes they have strong foundational skills in the following: 1) Real Numbers, Variables & Expressions 2) Order of Operations 3) Properties of Numbers 4) Distributive Properties 5) Adding & subtracting polynomials So if your student is at an Algebra 1 level and already has a handle on those skills that teachers reinforce at the start of the year, but wants to dig deep and MASTER linear algebra, this is the course for them.
No additional sources are needed for this class. I will sometimes use problems from Khan Academy's and College Board's resource pages for Algebra.
