1 hour per week. Home practice will be assigned after each class. Students are given the answers so they can check their work. At the beginning of the next class, we will take up some of the homework, at the request of students.Class Experience
US Grade 9
In this class we will review and practice the major concepts of Algebra 1 according to common core math. This class is rigorous: standards-aligned, engaging, and supportive of productive struggle. At the very beginning students will discuss how science has proven that strong math skills are often built by getting the wrong answer! We will take time each class to build community. Then, we will learn a math concept and work on a question together on the interactive whiteboard. Students will then work on questions independently, and we will all go through the solution together. After each class, I will send you our whiteboard notes and assign home practice. I help students see themselves as confident and competent MATHEMATICIANS who are able to apply their math knowledge both in and out of the classroom.
Learning Goals
Students will learn the basic math concepts of Algebra 1. By regularly participating in class and trying the home practice, they will acquire important learning and study skills.
