Class Experience
At the end of this course, students will be able to: -talk about polynomials using appropriate terminology -add and subtract polynomials -multiply any two polynomials -factor any factorable trinomial -understand the zero product property -recognize perfect square trinomials and differences of squares -solve problems by completing the square -find the zeros of a parabola -apply their knowledge to real-world problems
This course is taught by a math education professor, math tutor, textbook and curriculum author and editor, and former high school math teacher. The instructor is a contributing author for multiple algebra textbooks.
Students will be expected to spend 2-4 hours per week on this course. Learners will watch videos, play games and answer questions in Nearpod, complete discovery projects, and may be asked to make videos explaining concepts.
All curriculum and materials are created by the instructor for this course and will be provided.
Students will receive written feedback on all work submitted.
No live meetings, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
Students will need Nearpod and Flipgrid accounts for this class. Nearpod will be used in a variety of ways so that students can interact and participate as they learn new concepts at their own pace. Flipgrid will be used for students to share things they notice or wonder and to summarize important concepts. Nearpod slides will contain videos created by the instructor and hosted on YouTube.
