Description

Class Experience

This is an Algebra 1 course taught from Big Ideas Math Algebra 1 textbook. Students will learn Algebra 1 concepts. The class is to be enrolled in 8 weeks at a time throughout the school year. This class meets once per week and is projected to conclude a full year of Algebra 1 instruction by the third week of August.
As an engineer and someone who has tutored 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th grade math, Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, ACT Math Prep, Pre-calculus, and Calculus, I have a wonderful, unique perspective on the importance of a solid foundation in math, especially pre-algebra; it is essential for all math classes that follow.
I am an industrial engineer who always wanted to be a math teacher. I had fun helping my kids with math homework while they were in school, and when they started college four years ago, I began tutoring math at our local middle school as well as tutoring privately (all grades).
I am able to work with students of all different learning styles and abilities and will work at the group's pace.
I love all math, and I make it fun for kids!
Homework, quizzes, and tests will be assigned and graded by parents or learners with answer key that will be provided.
Students will also need pencil, paper, calculator, and graph paper; a good eraser is recommended.
Colored pencils or markers can also make it more fun.
They should come to class with any questions from previously-assigned homework.
Learners or parents will self-grade homework, quizzes, and tests with answer key that will be provided.
55 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
Big Ideas Math Algebra 1 by Ron Larson and Laurie Boswell; a link to the online version will be provided.
