Class Experience

***This class is on auto-schedule so you can request any time you like. Don't be shy!!!***

AIVA stands for AI Virtual Artist. It is a free model that can generate quality musical compositions of different lengths and styles. In this class we will be creating music that can be used not only for listening enjoyment, but as well as soundtracks to movies, school projects, games, and even with your own music. We will choose from classical, epic, hip-hop, jazz, and many other styles and we will also get to choose the instrumentation.

After that we will look into creating our own styles but choosing things like dynamic range, expressive performance, harmony, and chords. Everything is done with drop down menus so no musical background is necessary.
Learning Goals
In this class we will learn how to compose music in a variety of different styles using an AIVA. It will be like ordering a dish from a menu at the restaurant instead of cooking it yourself (we still get to eat it). We will also learn how to change the music if we want to and how to use human made music as inspiration for AIVA.

I have been a computer science teacher for 10 years and have taught AI in many different contexts. I have taught AIVA to elementary and middle school kids. I studied at Berklee College of Music for 2 years after graduating from Harvard (Applied Math). I mostly teach AI Art with Stable Diffusion and Midjourney but I hope to incorporate music and eventually video into my teaching.
