In this one time class, students will learn to use critical thinking when it comes to safety, strangers, and people awareness. They will practice their social skills while we role play and demonstrate different scenarios.

Class experience

Students will walk away from class with a better understanding of how to avoid strangers, why it is important to avoid strangers, and what to do if a stranger approaches.
I have a Master's of Social Work degree with a concentration in Community Organizing. I have a Bachelors of Science degree with a major in Human Development and Family Studies. I hold certificates in child youth and family services, diversity, leadership, and conflict resolution. I have over 5 years paid experience working with children online and in person. Previously, I've taught my nieces and nephews safety, awareness, people smarts, and stranger danger. I am currently teaching my 4 year old this topic.

This is a class about safety. We are going to role play and act out different scenarios. Class may sound loud, so students should not take it in the same room as someone sleeping. We will discuss safety measures such as learning their address and phone number in case of emergency. We will discuss creating a code word in case someone needs to pick them up from school in case of an emergency. Parents/ caregivers will need to do this with the learner at your own convenience.
I will post notes and additional resources after class. Some of the sources I used include but is not limited to the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh and kidsmartz.org.
