Week of 1/29: Topic: I Am Special Story: The Colors of Us by Karen Katz Craft: Self Portrait Supplies: piece of construction paper colored pencil, crayons or marker (skin tone colors) optional- mirror Week of 2/5: Topic/ Theme Have a Dream Story: We will learn about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr by reading the story, " Let Freedom Sing by Vanessa Newton Craft: I have a dream cloud Supplies: piece of construction paper pencil or marker cotton balls glue Week of 2/12 Topic/ Theme Artist Study: Alma Thomas Abstract Painting Technique Supplies: paint brush paint in the colors- red, yellow, green, blue, orange, purple Painting Template (I will upload it the week before class) ( if you do not have paints, you can make your own watercolors using food coloring and water) Week of 2/19 Topic/ Theme: Colorful Kente Cloth We will listen to the story: The Spider Weaver: A Legend of Kente Cloth Paperback –by Margaret Musgrove. Then we will make our own Weaving Kente Cloth Craft Construction paper ( 1 sheet each- green, red, black) Scissors (please take great care when using scissors) Pencil or pencil Week of 2/26 Topic/ Theme: Garret A Morgan's Traffic Light Supplies: template or white construction paper black crayon green, red, yellow construction paper
We will be using common art supplies as well as scissors. Please take care when handling and using scissors.
