Learners will read one of the most celebrated authors of the 20th century, and discuss the literature with their peers to increase reading comprehension. Learners will need to read approximately one chapter per day, therefore they will be setting themselves up for a lifetime of good reading habits if they set this pattern at this stage in their development.
I am a native English speaker with a 150-hour TESOL qualification from Arizona State University and post-graduate qualifications in Applied Linguistics from Monash University. I am also a lawyer in Australia and I homeschool my own children, therefore speaking and teaching clearly have been a part of my life for many years, and now I am also applying these skills to teaching others. Other applicable courses that I have completed that pertain to this class include: - Reason and Persuasion: Thinking Through Three Dialogues By Plato; - Technology and Ethics; - ADHD: Everyday Strategies for Elementary Students; - The Clinical Psychology of Children and Young People; - Everyday Parenting: The ABCs of Child Rearing; - A Brief History of Humankind.
Homework Offered
- Read the set chapters as per the class schedule before the next class in order to participate in the class discussion. - I will also set weekly writing tasks to be completed asynchronously in the classroom for reading comprehension and expansion upon the ideas found in the literature.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
