1 hour per week. Each class we will have optional assignments. For example: Take 5 photographs that show texture and color. Take 5 photographs of subjects you love. Then at the next class students can choose to share their photographs.Assessment
This is a highly creative class. Every student will learn about their special and unique gifts and talents.Class Experience
This will be an eight week class. Each class we will cover a different aspect of photography. At each class we will additionally review last weeks fun assignment and see the students work. Topic will include: Handling the camera ( or phone ), The art of composition, using light, reviewing some of the top photographers in history. What makes a great photograph? How does photography present you, the learner? What you you do with photography? It is important to be safe online so we will review what is appropriate and how to achieve safety. Part of the experience will be for each student to shoot photographs before the next class. I will give specific assignments like, use color to create a great shot, or find something in the environment and take a photo that expresses what you think about the subject. I will then review each students work at every session. The emphasis will be on creative feedback and encouragement. There is no wrong or right way to do photography so each student will explore their own talent and point of view. We will explore the great photographers of history and discover what makes them important. I will discuss some possible career paths in photography for those interested. Most important the class will be fun, engaging and inspiring to enlighten young minds to the power of visual imagery. Each week we will see examples and learn what is best for you to do. Week 1 - What is your interest and experience. We will hear from each student but if you are shy don't worry you can just relax. We will look at examples of great photographs and give you a short photo assignment. Week 2- The art of color and composition. This week we will look at how the camera uses light to paint the picture that you want. Week 3- The art of light and texture. This week we will look at the use of light and texture to capture the mood and elements that you would like in your photo. Week 4- The art of creation and editing/filters. Week 5- The subject: pets, friends, models and objects. How to create interest. Week 6 - Special effects. In this section we will explore the special effects used in the top photos and how you can create your own. Week 7- Brining it all together. This week we will talk about how this all comes together to make a great photo. Week 8- How to use social media safely. Sharing your photos. Awards for your accomplishments.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Mr. Simmons has been a professional photographer and video producer and is currently using photography online to build a social media following. He has won international film and photography awards and taught at Harvard, Boston University, Bucknell Universtiy and at many local high school and elementary schools.
