Some of Ludwig Van Beethoven's most famous works are his symphonies, and this class will look at his final four, including the monumental 9th, also known as the Choral Symphony. Students will learn about the history of these works and their melodies, and how they fit into the story of Beethoven's life (he was fully deaf when he wrote his last.) As part of the class, students will also hear many highlights from these great works, giving them an enriching musical experience. We will have ample opportunities each class to discuss thoughts about the works and Beethoven as well. This class topics are structured as such: Day 1: Symphony 6, a symphony that paints a musical picture of the German countryside. Day 2: Symphony 7, a joyful work with a highly popular second movement. Day 3: Symphony 8, Beethoven's favorite and a return to his Classical roots before his final masterpiece. Days 4 and 5: Symphony 9, an enormous symphony that was the first to feature a choir and played a part in the development of the CD.
Learning Goals
Students should develop a better understanding of Beethoven's later symphonies.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello parents,
I teach music classes for all ages, many of which can be taken without prior music experience. I also offer math tutoring and in the future hope to offer creative writing classes. Before coming to Outschool, I taught general music and band in public schools, as well as tutoring students in math and language arts.
I hold a master's degree in music composition, and a bachelor's degree in music theory and composition. For over twenty years I have written music for a variety of instruments and genres. I have also been a regular performer in classical, rock, blues, and jazz bands as a tubist, trombonist, and bass guitarist.
Former principals have described me as "awesome" and "a blessing" to my students, and I always strive to create a learning environment where they feel supported, safe, and happy.
Besides music, my hobbies include video games and writing fiction. I even wrote a fantasy novel ten years ago!
