I'm Mrs. Ross, an experienced educator with over four years in the classroom, specializing in foundational reading skills like letters, sounds, and phonics. I offer after-school tutoring sessions designed to help your child progress in their skills and tackle homework with confidence.

In these sessions, we'll focus on reinforcing and advancing the reading skills critical for lifelong learning. My teaching style is patient, upbeat, engaging, and celebratory. I maintain high expectations while being task-oriented and focused, ensuring a positive and productive learning environment. Whether your child needs extra help with their homework or wants to boost their reading abilities, my approach guarantees that every session is both effective and enjoyable. Let's work together to unlock your child's full potential!

Topics Examples: 

1. Letter Recognition and Sounds:

* Identifying uppercase and lowercase letters
* Matching letters to their sounds
* Practicing letter formation and handwriting

2. Phonics and Blending

* Understanding consonant and vowel sounds
* Blending sounds to form simple words (e.g., cat, dog, hat)
* Introduction to digraphs (e.g., ch, sh, the)

3. Sight Words

* Recognizing common sight words (e.g., the, and, is, it)
* Reading sight words in sentences
* Writing sight words from memory

4. Rhyming and Word Families

* Identifying rhyming words
* Exploring word families (e.g., -at, -an, -in)
* Creating word family lists

5. Basic Reading Comprehension

* Listening to and discussing simple stories

Students will need their homework if needing assistance with that. Students will need pencils, pencil sharpeners, and primary lined paper or blank paper if needing help with math.
