In this course students get an introduction to the African continent, various countries and the origin and nature of African dance movements.

Class experience

Student will improve their understanding of dance and its history especially as it relates to the African culture. They will understand movements and rhythm and they will be able to learn basic dance styles from certain African cultures.
I love dancing and I’ve grown more passionate about it over the years, particularly as it relates to cultural dance. I love being African and I’ll like to share our amazing culture around the world. Though I've been dancing all my life, I have 4 years experience teaching it professionally.
Homework Offered
There will be no formal assignments in this class, but students will be advised to do certain mild research on certain African dance styles. This will help us to have an interactive session.
Assessments Offered
Progress will be assessed by having a question and answer session either at the end of each class or at the beginning of the next class.
Grades Offered
Learners can come to class with notepad and pen/pencil to take information down. Also due to the nature of the class we will be performing some physical activities so I will advise learners to come to class with a bottle of water, they will also need extra workout space to perform some of the dance moves.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Due to the nature of the class we will be performing some physical activities (dance) so I will advise learners to come to class with a bottle of water, they will also need extra workout space to perform some of the dance moves. Most of African traditional dances are best performed barefoot but if your child/ward has tender feet then it is advisable to keep footwear handy for the class.
Most of the materials we will be using will be from my personal knowledge as a dance teacher. Additionally, we will use extra materials such as pre-recorded dance videos where I perform some of the dance moves so we can discuss and learn together about the moves in class.
