This book shares the story of the prima ballerina, Janet Collins. We will discuss her determination to be a dancer despite the challenges she faced. We focus on the idea determination. We end the class with a dance party. Black History.

US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 1
Students will learn about the life of Janet Collins by listening to a book about her life. Students will discuss the themes of bravery, determination and persistence and how they too can possess those things. We will explore the music of her birth. We will also explore the various types of dance Janet did before falling in love with ballet. Lastly we will explore some of the types of music. We end with a little dance party at the end. Costumes are welcome but not required. The teacher will however be in costume!
Learning Goals
Students should understand that Janet Collins was very dedicated and did not let racism stop her from being a ballerina.
