African American Stories: Juneteenth Story and Flag Craft
Class experience
**Please contact me about sibling discounts. Students will listen to the story of how the Juneteenth holiday came to be, how it is celebrated today (symbols, traditions, food, etc.), and the importance of the holiday specifically to African-Americans, and all Americans in the United States. We will then create our own individual Juneteenth flags to display at home on Juneteenth, (6/19).
1. The history of Juneteenth. 2. How it is celebrated today 3. How to make your own Juneteenth flag craft to hand and celebrate
I have been celebrating Juneteenth as an African-American for over 20+ years.
Not required but a nice to have for young learners. Books about Juneteenth that will make a great addition to your home collection: Juneteenth For Mazie by Floyd Cooper All Different Now: Juneteenth, The First Day of Freedom by Angela Johnson Another wonderful book that contains more facts is: Juneteenth, A Celebration of Freedom by Charles A. Taylor Needed: Craft: The colors of the flag are Blue, Red, and White. If students use construction paper, they will need one color of each, scissors, and a glue stick. Students may also decide to color or paint a flag, in which case they would need white paper, and either crayons, colored pencils or paints in the above colors.
