Class Experience

I hold a Bachelor's degree in History and have taught history for 13. During my time as an educator, scholar, and activist, I have taken graduate course work and attended professional developments centered on issues with race and marginalized groups, especially people of color, groups of low social-economic status, and women. I have worked with organizations and groups that focused on these issues as well as attended and help facilitate workshops. I have over 10 years of experience in social justice work and have led discussions for years in my own classroom that allow students to gain insight and remain respectful of all viewpoints.
Most of the course materials will be provided by the teacher. Students may want to print out handouts and notes. A printer will be needed to do this.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
No live meetings, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
In this course, we will be talking about the enslavement of people and the harsh treatments they experienced. History is not always positive, but to get a full picture, historians must take a complete and factual look at events that took place in the past.
We will refer to historical primary and secondary documents from the national archives, we will visit the US Constitution. We will also us snippets of documentaries from the History Channel.
