US Grade 5 - 8
In this class, students will learn about the historic Green book. It was a travel guide that was once used by many African Americans during a dangerous time, the Jim Crow Era. Traveling in the USA was very difficult and dangerous for black people at one point. Students will learn who created the Green Book, why it was created, and how black people benefited from this book. I will talk to students about the unfair laws that once took over America and how life was very dangerous for Black Tourists in the South. Students will learn about what sundown towns were and why black people were not welcomed in those towns. By the end of class, students will understand the history of the Green Book and why it was so important to African Americans in the 1900's. They will understand the many challenges African Americans faced while traveling throughout the USA. This class will be very informative and it also connects to my other African American classes. This lesson will be interactive, and each student will have an opportunity to share their thoughts and opinions. If you have any questions about the class or suggestions please send a message. This class could possibly go over 30 minutes, as I love to give all students the time speak if they chose to do so.
