US Grade 1 - 4
Students will learn about the life of the amazing and groundbreaking athlete, Jesse Owens. Owens was a 4-Time Olympic Gold Medalist in 1936. He could run faster and jump higher than any other athlete in the world in the 1900s. Many people were proud of his achievements while others mostly in America were not so kind because of his skin color. Students will learn about his early life, hardships, and accomplishments. They will learn about the obstacles he faced and how he overcame racism as an African American athlete. I will teach students about what was going in the world when Jesse competed in the Olympics in Berlin, Germany. They will briefly learn about how Adolf Hitler, and the Nazi Party played a role in the Olympic games where Jesse Owens competed. We will have a discussion about racism, unfair treatment and laws in the USA. Students will understand how Jesse Owens helped pave the way for many other black people around the world to be successful athletes. This lesson will be interactive, and each student will have an opportunity to share their thoughts and opinions. If you have any questions about the class or suggestions please send a message. Sometimes, class may go over 30 minutes as I love to give every student the opportunity to speak in class. If you would prefer a1-on- 1 section, please send a message.
