Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 7
In this class, students will learn about the daily life of the enslaved living on plantations in the 1600's through the1800's. They will learn about the living conditions of the people who were Enslaved and what they were forced to do on a daily basis. We will briefly talk about what slavery is and why it continued in America for hundreds of years. They will learn about what the enslaved were required to do and what would happen if they didn't complete their tasks. Students will also learn the differences between a field slave and a house slave. We will talk about how African Americans created their own culture and still found reasons to celebrate amidst the atrocities of slavery. We will also have a discussion about why slavery is inhumane. By the end of this class, students will have a better understanding of slavery in America and why it is a part of our history we must continue to discuss.

This lesson will be interactive, and each student will have an opportunity to share their thoughts and opinions. If you have any questions about the class or suggestions please send a message.
Sometimes, class may go over 30 minutes as I love to give every student the opportunity to speak in class.

If you prefer a 1on1 class, please let me know.

Since this is a very sensitive subject, we will have discussions about the struggles black people faced as slaves in America. We will talk about the harsh treatments (punishments), racism, inequality, and living conditions. I will answer all questions to the best of my ability.

As an ESL Teacher and Tutor, I have taught classes on African American history, American Figures, Racism, and the civil rights movement for over 4 years. I have experience in teaching this subject to students in elementary, middle, and high school. I also have experience tutoring college students. I have a degree in Communications, so I will be able to communicate and teach this topic without being bias. I was able to research, write essays, and give speeches about this topic throughout college. I was trained by professionals to understand history and the issues surrounding history. Most importantly, I will allow each student to express their thoughts and opinions about this topic. This will help them communicate and show what they have learned. It is very important to include all students. I have taught African American history for 2 years. I studied communications in colleges which heavily focused on Afro and African American studies.
