Hello! In this one time class, students will learn about Ruby Bridges. She was the first African American student to integrate an all white school in Louisiana in 1960. Class will begin with class rules and introductions. Then, we will use slides, video clips, and stories to examine the meanings of race, racism, discrimination, segregation, and integration. Next, we will focus on Ruby Bridge’s courageous actions. We will also talk about the different ways she is relevant in today's society. Students will also explore ways they can use kindness and their voices to stand up to racism.
Learning Goals
Students will learn about Ruby Bridges, and increase their understanding about racism and anti-racism. They will also explore ways they can use kindness and their voices to stand up to racism.

I love learning about history and its effects on the world. I have a B.A. from Columbia University in History. I also have over 10 years of experience teaching African American History to students in Kindergarten to 8th grade. I would love to have the opportunity to share my love of history with your child.
