In this class we learn about 10 African American individuals who fought slavery, prejudice, and injustice all while changing the face of medicine in America. They invented modern blood-banking, served in the highest ranks of the U.S. government, and much more! Join me as we dive into the inspiring stories of 8 pioneering African American physicians. I am a ESL teacher and tutor and I have mentored over 200 teens over the past 6 years through my nonprofit on diversity and current events and continue to lead open group discussions regarding diversity and inclusion for individuals ages 5-18. I have many years of experience facilitating difficult conversations regarding civil rights and African American History. I am committed to creating a safe non bias space for children to express their thoughts and ideas. I also have my Bachelors Degree in Business Administration and my Masters of Business Administration.
-Computer Paper and/or colored Construction Paper -Tape -Scissors -Coloring Materials - Print outs for certain days. Which will be emailed the Sunday before class begins. (Not required but encouraged).
2 hours 5 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Students will learn about social injustice, slavery, racism, Jim Crow Laws, discrimination and how it tied into these pioneers journey.
