Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 4
Black History Month is celebrated for the entire month of February in the United States of America. It's not only celebrated in America but its celebrated around the world. Why is Black History Month celebrated every year? Why is it important? In this class, students will learn about the origins of black history month and why it's celebrated today. It's a time to recognize, honor, and remember black people, their struggles and accomplishments. Students will have a better understanding as to why its important to celebrate and remember the lives of prominent African American figures who made a difference in America. They will learn why/when it started, who cerebrates it, and what countries celebrate it. They will also learn why its celebrated in the month of February. We will have discussions about historical events and important figures who helped shape America. Black history just isn't black history but its American history. Its important to not forget about the contributions that black people made around the world. This lesson will be interactive, and each student will have an opportunity to share their thoughts. This class has the potential to exceed 30 minutes, as I love to give every student the opportunity to speak in class, if they choose to do so. This class is packed with important facts but very interactive, giving students time to discuss :)
