Class Experience

Read and chat with us! Aesop's Fables are perfect for teaching clever problem-solving skills and how to make good choices. They also provide a great way to practice critical thinking and reading skills. Together, learners will read a new fable each class followed by a few reading comprehension questions and finally, discussion about the moral of that fable. These fables have withstood the test of time because generations have enjoyed learning about The Fox and The Grapes, The Lion and The Mouse, and The Boy Who Cried Wolf. Adding a discussion element will give each learner some time to process real life situations in which we could apply the moral of each story. I also include some short educational videos for a more dynamic class. I am an energetic and encouraging teacher who loves to get students thinking and sharing their own thoughts on each topic. My reading classes are very interactive and I ensure each learner in my class has a turn to talk, read, and share.

Reading level required : These stories are adapted for readers between the Guided Reading levels I, J, K, & L. Typically, readers around the ages of 7-9 will be very comfortable with these readers. The fables have been adapted by Anne Gardner and we will be using Google Slides to facilitate each class.

Teaching Experience:
I have over ten years of teaching experience in a variety of learning environments and age groups. I have been an online educator for over 5 years and I am currently a licensed middle school social studies teacher. I am convinced that few things are as rewarding as teaching and enriching the lives of children. My three sons love Outschool and I strive to offer the same quality classes that I expect for my own kids. You will receive quick feedback (and grades, upon request). I respond to messages and inquiries within 24 hours.

My Teaching Philosophy:
I love to engage my learners with interesting content and plenty of discussion. I believe effective teaching ignites the curiosity of every child. I look forward to teaching your learner through quality content, student encouragement, and an engaging classroom environment.

Educational Background and Licensure:
I am licensed to teach secondary social studies in the state of North Carolina. I hold a graduate certificate in Multicultural and Transnational Literatures from East Carolina University. I attended Georgia College & State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies in 2006. I studied four main disciplines: Anthropology, History, World Religions, and Philosophy. My main course of study was Anthropology. In this discipline, I studied cultural and physical anthropology, geology, and the human contribution to climate change. I had the opportunity to take part in an archaeological dig to study Pre-Columbian civilizations at the Gerace Research Centre on San Salvador Island, Bahamas. I am also TESOL certified. Because of my educational foundation, I have a profound respect for other cultures and perspectives. All students are welcome in my classroom.

Please send me a message if you have any questions or would like to schedule a class at a time that would be more convenient to you. I hope to teach your learner soon!
