Class Experience

US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 1
Welcome to the all new Pig Detective Series!

Please join me, for our fully interactive class as I read my original mystery stories of our favorite pig named Pig. Pig will meet new friends, work on our letters, theme-based sight words and play games while we travel the world exploring new countries and learning interesting facts, stories and historical information about each. Class will be the same day and time each week. The class is designed to run through the entire collection of Pig Travel Adventures once starting at the beginning.

Each class is a stand alone class and does not require previous classes or knowledge. This is not a book club, it is an interactive story time as stated throughout the title and description. Please read the description for further explanation. All materials are created and copyrighted to myself. My class structure is social and fun. We like to chat while we learn and make new friends. The best learning is when you don't even know it's happening :)

We will cycle through all the mysteries until we come back to the first adventure "Pig Finds a Clue". Please note that as this is a subscription-based class and learners can pop in and out when it suits them, I am unable to track what classes they take and where they start in the cycle. Parents need to be aware of when it begins to repeat for their child and unsubscribe.

Each week we will follow Pig as he solves a new mystery. At this time these classes are not offered as one-time classes.

Each month a lineup of the classes will be posted in the classroom. On the day of class, the Nearpod link will be added to the classroom a minimum of 30 minutes prior to the start of class so parents can set up their child’s device. The code will also be offered in the zoom class for parents who want to link to the story through zoom. If you are new to Nearpod be sure to download it prior to class so you can be set to go.

Please note that this class is fully interactive. Parents must understand and gauge their own child’s ability to interact on the screen for our activities. All of our little learners are unique and special with their own level of understanding and ability to use technology. Touch screens or iPad's are the easiest for most learners but not required at all. If your child uses the mouse well that is great or if you can assist your learner, that will work too. There are some activities that are only able to be done on screen such as games and word search. Writing our letters, words and drawing our pictures can be done on paper and held up to the camera (quite common) if your little learner prefers. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me prior to class time.

While students listen to the story they will be watching and listening to our theme/sight words. They will have the opportunity to practice writing our sight words or letters throughout the story with game time at the end. Each one of my Adventures of Pig follow similar format but have varying activities and story level.

I will engage our little learners in conversation and discuss our new discoveries throughout as we explore what things Pig will find next. My class is structured to be a mix of listening to the story and includes the opportunity for our little learners to speak and talk about the story at the end of each section.

The Nearpod file share code for our lesson will be in our Outschool classroom at least 30 minutes prior to class and again offered in the zoom class chatbox once class begins if you require assistance with setting it up. You can run Nearpod on a separate device but linking through the OS classroom or run it in zoom tiling it with our class. It is all personal preference. I encourage you to link to the story prior to class time if you are able as this will get our class moving much faster.

Please understand that this class is interactive and uses Nearpod so that our little learners can draw on the screen, look around at 3D locations and play games. You are responsible to know your child’s ability or to assist them if needed as well as understand your home internet capability.

Welcome to the home of The Adventures of Pig (and other things).
My name is Ms. Shannon and I am an entrepreneur!

I live in Canada with my husband and my two teenage daughters. We share our lives with 8 chickens, 2 silver tabby cats: Juergen and Pig, and a hedgehog named Rocket. I also have two adult sons who go to college and live on their own.

I have been fortunate in life to have had the opportunity to wear many hats in life. I am an entrepreneur in my heart and soul.

I bred Persian cats for a number of years, started and operated a concrete company, and taught English as a second language. Currently, I am the CEO of a helicopter parts distribution company and I design and teach courses on various subjects for both adults and children.

Living life with passion and drive is my key to happiness. I believe strongly that we can live life on our own terms and create a life of intention and gratefulness. “just jump in" is my own personal mantra. What is the worse that could happen, failure, rejection?

In 2018, I appeared on HGTV Caribbean Life as I made a major life shift and bought a home on the island of Utila. We wanted out of the rat race and jumped into a life of adventure, beaches, and meeting new people.

I hold an English degree in Creative Writing and have been a published writer for 14 years. My classes revolve around discussion and collaboration. I know from experience, that many times we can be stuck with an idea until a fresh set of eyes show up. Kids enjoy talking about their ideas and sharing with others, but can you guess what they like even more? Helping! During my time teaching an early writers lunchtime program at both elementary and middle school level, I was amazed to see how excited and on fire my students would become when helping others craft their stories! Imagination and creativity is like an active volcano, as the energy grows, genius and originality begin to erupt to epic levels!

Join me for adventure time and laughter my new friends!
xoxo
