Description
Class Experience
Students will learn: * The history of the Statue of Liberty * Lesson vocabulary and a song in American Sign Language * Creation of a crown and a Statue of Liberty step-by-step drawing
My excitement about American symbols began with travels to Washington, DC. I loved stepping onto the exact spot Martin Luther King Jr. stood for his iconic I Have a Dream speech on the steps on the Lincoln Memorial. Walking through the White House thrilled me as I imagined the historic individuals who had walked its halls. I have enthusiastically taught many first graders about Washington, DC through books, music, and plays. I'm so excited to share American symbols with Outschool students!
There will be no homework unless students want to complete or add to their art projects.
* one paper plate * scissors * tape * pencil or pen * crayons * markers (only if you prefer them to crayons for coloring the crown) * black marker * 2 pieces of paper * optional: stickers, adhesive gems to decorate the crown
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
I will assess students through questioning and observation in order to adapt instruction. I will also give the students the chance to report a fact they learned so I can assist them with further information if needed.
1 hour per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
No parental guidance will be needed beyond the class guidelines (keeping cameras on throughout the lesson).
