Class Experience

US Grade 1
Hi and welcome to my summer math class! Each week we will explore a different math concept with a fun theme. This summer class will run through August 23, with a SUMMER BREAK: JULY 1-5.
*This class does not focus explicitly on addition/subtraction strategies, though I have another class that does. (Exploring Addition and Subtraction)

Students will learn through demonstrations, slides/visuals, interactive activities, guided practice, and independent practice. We will talk about our mathematical thinking/reasoning along the way. Word problems will sometimes be used to connect math to real world situations. There will also be an optional worksheet provided after class to practice and reinforce what we've learned.

Here are the lesson topics:

June 3-7 - Exploring 2D Shapes
June 10-14 - Exploring 3D Solid Figures
June 17-21 - Dividing Shapes (halves, fourths, thirds)
June 24-28 - Time to the Hour, Half Hour, and Quarter Hour
July 1-5 - NO CLASS

Hello and welcome! My name is Ms. Sarah. I am a credentialed teacher with 18 years of experience teaching in the public, private, and online school settings. Most of my years spent teaching have been in first grade, which I love. I enjoy teaching Math, Reading, Science, and Social Studies. I have a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with specialization in Early Childhood. I also have a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction.

I like to teach lessons that are interactive, engaging, meaningful, and fun. I want students to not be afraid to take risks in learning. Even if they don’t get the correct answer right away, that’s ok, as long as they try their best. Learning is an ongoing process and everybody learns at different rates and through different methods and styles.

I love animals and I have lots of pets, including dogs, birds, and bunnies. I also enjoy baking, tap dancing, and learning new things. I look forward to seeing you in my classroom!
