Class Experience

OVERVIEW: This is a semester-long course where students will get a comprehensive introduction to Spanish -- which will include reading, writing, and speaking.

This will start with the basics of building a strong Spanish foundation. It is designed to be an ongoing course, and the speed of the content taught will be determined by how fast the learners in the class are learning. This course will assume no (or some) basic knowledge of Spanish (i.e. alphabet, counting, weather, colors, and basic conversational phrases). It will work on the learning style of the student(s). It will include games, learning techniques, and bring value to the student.

What will be taught?

This is an interactive course that will teach the student about the mechanics of the Spanish language -- things like phonics, grammar, tildes (accent marks), sentence construction, reading in Spanish, writing in Spanish, and also conversational Spanish. Each session will be fun, lively, and take into account the student's learning style. It will include homework and tips on creating an immersive environment at home.

How will you teach?
I will take a learning style poll in the beginning to create an environment that caters to the learning styles of the students. This will inform me whether or not I will use tools like whiteboards, pictures, video clips, or printouts.

What's your teaching style?

Outgoing, Creative & Interactive.

How much will learners get to interact with you and each other (mention specifics like lecture, games, slides, video clips, discussion)?

Every session will be interactive (I will also use this to assess progress or weak points). This will include using strategies like lecturing, games, video clips, and other techniques that will be relevant for the student.

Any required experience or knowledge learners need? No. For the Summer Spanish program it will be assumed that all students are beginners in some form.

Learning Goals

By the end of the semester, the student will know the basic structure of Spanish, grammar, conjugation, and be able to speak with basic knowledge and awareness of the mechanics of the language.
