I will take students through a musical adventure performing live flute solos from the different genres. We will talk about each of the composers and pieces and discuss what the music sounds like. I will play pieces by J.S. Bach, Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Piazzolla and John Williams. They will hear different instruments from the flute family including the wooden flute, traditional C flute, piccolo and alto flute. I will give students a chance to interact and describe each composer and discuss what they know about that time period. This class has a lot of music and fun information on the time periods and composers.
Learning Goals
This class is a musical performance featuring world-class flute playing that has been featured on the movies they love today. Students will come away having heard a personalized concert and leave with a basic knowledge of the different time periods in music and be able to hear the difference in styles.
The class will cover the Baroque, Classical, Romantic and 20th Century eras of music and what was going on historically during each of those time periods. After each time period and composer has been introduced, the students will hear a live performance of one of the composer's works. We will then talk about what we hear and what we should listen for.
