Class Experience

Join me for this one of a kind, 24 day Christmas Advent class. We will meet everyday for 24 days starting December 1st counting down to Christmas Eve, December 24th. Each class will feature a different theme ranging from the history of Christmas traditions, Christmas themed games and everything in between! Many classes will have corresponding crafts correlating to the topic of that particular day. We will read some favorite Christmas books and discuss the different characters and themes. Students will have many opportunities to share their excitement about Christmas and the traditions they follow as well as sharing any goodies they get from Advent calendars they are opening at home . This class is secular and approaches Christmas from a fun, pop culture perspective. There will be little to no mention of the religious aspects of Christmas and any brief statements are linked to our discussion of cultural history. The religious connection to Christmas will not be a main focal point in any class.

So come join this awesome real life Advent calendar and have some fun leading up to Christmas!

Hi! I love to teach classes that are fun and promote discussion and creativity. In all of my classes I mix critical thinking with out of the box thinking so that the kids learn something brand new! I find the best way to do this is by using books, video games, trivia and other interactive components to keep them engaged and wanting to learn.

My passion for critical thought stems from my degree in Philosophy. The integration of pop culture in my classes is rooted in a lifetime of toy collecting, video game playing, and during my time as a staff writer for an online comic book review site. Over the past five years I have created community-based, pop-up craft classes for parents and children that integrate culture and thought, and I am excited about the opportunity to share these types of activities with my students!

Outside of teaching I enjoy spending time with my husband, son, two cats and puppy! I love online gaming and spending a lot of time crafting.
