1-2 hours per week. Suggested practice, worksheets, projects, additional YouTube video links and discussions may be posted. Learners are encouraged to share their finished projects and Amy always ask any questions they may have to the teacher.

Class Experience

This course will explore a variety of topics that are related to small animal veterinary science. (Cats, dogs, etc) See the syllabus for the specific topics. 

In class PowerPoints and discussions will be supplemented with some in class  and outside of class projects and videos. 

Learners should have either taken my Introduction to Veterinary Medicine class or have some basic knowledge of veterinary science.

My teaching style is caring and relaxed. I am passionate about sharing veterinary science with learners of all abilities from all over the world! I am happy to provide additional support if needed. I am excited to help learners reach their goal to work with animals or to become a veterinary assistant, technician, or veterinarian!

Learning Goals
Learners will begin to develop their knowledge in veterinary science including medical terminology and anatomy and physiology.
Learners will develop critical thinking skills as they begin to see how a veterinary professional will assess a patient.

Lesson 1:
Terminology 1
 Students will learn some commonly used prefix/suffix/roots, along with common veterinary terminology.

Lesson 2:
Terminology II
 Students will continue to learn some commonly used prefix/suffix/roots, along with common veterinary directional terminology. We will play "Terminology Bingo" game!

Lesson 3:
Safety and Restraint
 Students will learn how veterinary professionals keep themselves and their patients safe including Fear Free handling, , and “kitty burritos” will be practiced using a stuffed animal and a towel.

Lesson 4:
Recognizing Emergency Situations/ Pet First Aid Kits
 Students will learn about some emergency situations that pets sometimes find themselves in.  Lesson topics will include the importance personal safety if there is a pet emergency. Pet first aid home kit’s content will be discussed and a list of items commonly put in a general pet first aid kit will be given.

I have been a certified veterinarytechnician for more than 30 years. I  have a MEd from Colorado State University and a Master of Veterinary Education (MVEd) from Lincoln Memorial University’s School of Veterinary Medicine. 

 I have been teaching  at a local  colleges in veterinary Assistant Programs, and an Equine Studies program as well as a variety of Veterinary Science programs for grades 3-5, 6-8, and high school.

Along with that I am also a homeschool mom! At home, my family has 2 mini horses, 4 Nigerian dwarf goats, 6 chickens and 4 cats! 

 I am absolutely passionate about sharing my experience and love for animals and veterinary medicine with others!
