US Grade 4
Advanced Level
This advanced reading group is for students who are confident readers at about a 4th grade reading level and beyond. Learners will read in small groups to practice fluency skills. This is a cooperative reading group with no more than 5 students to ensure each learner gets a good amount of reading time. During each meeting learners will take turns reading out loud. If time allows, we will also discuss comprehension questions. Students are not required to have their own copy of each book since they will be able to read the text directly from the screen. Please be sure learners are attending on a device large enough to read text shared in zoom meeting on the screen. Each week, learners will read a new book in the ten-book series. After the 10th week, we will start again at the beginning of the book list: Week of January 16: "The Jungle Book" from stories by Rudyard Kipling Week of January 23: "Romeo and Juliet" from the play by William Shakespeare Week of January 30: "Frankenstein" from the story by Mary Shelley Week of February 6: "Great Expectations" from the story by Charles Dickens Week of February 13: "Dracula" from the story by Bram Stoker Week of February 20: "The Wizard of Oz" from the story by L. Frank Baum Week of February 27: "A Midsummer Night's Dream" from the play by William Shakespeare Week of March 6: "Treasure Island" from the story by Louis Stevenson Week of March 13: "Oliver Twist" from the story by Charles Dickens Week of March 20: "Sherlock Holmes and the Hound of the Baskervilles" from the story by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I am excited to meet you! I am an enthusiastic teacher and believe learning should be fun. Learning is enhanced for a child when it is presented in a context made relative to their interests.
I graduated from Washington State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences. I have taught children for over 15 years. My background includes teaching EFL online to learners aged 4-16 as well as teaching preschool.
I live near Seattle, Washington with my husband and two children. We also have a Siberian Husky, two tuxedo cats, two ferrets, a leopard gecko and a crested gecko. Outside of teaching, I love cooking, volunteering at my children's school and traveling with my family. I look forward to fun and creativity with your child in my classroom!
