This ongoing class is designed to create a virtual classroom for learners to grow together socially and academically. It's set up as ongoing for a more feasible payment option, but the hope is for all learners to create a bond that makes coming to class fun and a positive routine for us all. There are currently two sections of this class. Both meet on Tuesday and Thursday. The first section, meeting at 11:30 a.m. EST, is at a second grade academic level. The requirements for that class are clearly listed below and an assessment is needed to attend the class. The second section, meeting at 12:30 p.m. EST, is more tailored to students who need a challenge in basic kindergarten concepts. The requirements for that class are also clearly listed below, but no assessment is needed to join. For the second grade level class, it is important that your child can : -add and subtract fairly quickly within 0-10 so that they are challenged with double digits, fractions, etc. -read fluently at a late first grade level or above -be able to express themselves in writing (know how to form all letters etc.) -learn new concepts quickly with guided help If you think your child can perform these skills, please reach out for an assessment. All new students will be assessed first to be sure this class is a good fit for them. Students enrolled without an assessment will be withdrawn and refunded. Please message me if you’d like an assessment. For the kindergarten challenge class, it is important that your child can: -read simple sentences quickly and accurately -understand the concept of addition and subtraction while being able to perform simple equations -learn concepts quickly with guided help We will rotate through various subjects such as math, reading/phonemic awareness and comprehension, and basic U.S. history. Because this is a small group, lessons will be tailored to each student needs. There will be materials that will need to be printed from time to time. Materials will be given in advance. Some lessons will require Nearpod. Nearpod is an amazing website that allows me to bring in games and interactive materials for students participate with at home. I will create fun games, and interactive activities for students to participate with at home and I can see their progress in real time. A second device is highly recommended, but not required.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello, my name is Alyssa! Prior to teaching with Outschool, I was a public school teacher for 9 years. I have a dual certification in Special Education 1-12 and General Education K-6. I’ve been collectively teaching for 14 years.
Since resigning, I have homeschooled my own children, currently in grades pre-k, 3, 4, and 6, and have taught several local homeschool classes for grades 1-6. On Outschool, I am offering classes geared towards students ages 3 to 8. My specialty is in full immersion beginner Spanish classes and camps, but I also offer academic courses in English as well. I've grown up speaking Spanish in my home and teach my own little ones daily.
