4 in-class hoursClass Experience
This class will cover multiple aspects of advanced rudimental drumming. Be ready to play as this is a very hands-on course! Each class is divided into sections. Section one is our warm-up section. This warm-up section will give students the tools to move towards greater hand control at higher tempo ranges. We will be pushing the warm-ups in this section towards 200BPM. The second section will cover the particular rudimental study of the day. Day 1 - Accent and rebound studies Day 2 - Paradiddles and their permutations! Day 3 - Singles and doubles as triplets, 16ths, and beyond! Day 4 - Syncopation accents with applied diddle strokes Day 5 - 5 stroke rolls and their permutations! Day 6 - Ruffs vs Drags (The biggest question facing the percussion world today)! Day 7 - Ratamacues Day 8 - Putting it all together!!! The third and final section of each class will be an open Q&A for any students with questions regarding the material covered in class (or any other musical questions that may come up in during our time together). I teach this class more like an old-school exercise video than a standard drum lesson. We will be playing from the first minute of class through to the end of section two each week. Be ready to roll!! A minimum of one year of lessons/school band/etc is highly recommended for this class. Beginning students will have a hard time keeping up in this class.

Parental Guidance
Students will be expected to practice the material given each week leading up to the next class. Remember that learning an instrument is more like working out than learning facts. In order to get good at a workout, and in order to get fit, you need to do the exercise(s) multiple times in succession without too many days off (if any) in between. Repetition is the key to success in the class.
A minimum of one year of lessons/school band/etc is highly recommended for this class. Beginning students will have a hard time keeping up in this class.
Supply List
Students will need a practice pad and drum sticks. All curriculum materials will be provided by the instructor.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Brad Novak. I'm an educator, business owner, drummer, and musician and would LOVE to work with your child! I currently teach over 100 students weekly in one-on-one and ensemble sessions at my private teaching studio called The Beat Lab. In addition to my responsibilities at The Beat Lab I also teach...
- Drum set at Interlochen Arts Academy, a fine arts high school in Interlochen, MI
- Beginning band at the Grand Traverse Area Catholic Schools in Traverse City, MI
- Applied Percussion for Northwestern Michigan College in Traverse City, MI
- Multiple percussion and Ukulele classes for our local Homeschool co-op.
In addition to my teaching schedule I perform live with several local artists and record drums and percussion tracks for singer/songwriter projects.
I studied music/drumming at Berklee College of Music in 1996 and at Central Michigan University from 1997-2001. This education, and the fantastic teachers/professors that worked with me, sparked my own interest in educating. Since then. I've been "full speed ahead"!!!
I'm blessed with an amazing wife, 3 wonderful children, 1 always-hungry dog, and 7 chickens!
