Class structure will build on students' prior knowledge of the Norwegian language. If the student has intermediate level Norwegian skills acquired during family interactions/travel, at Skogfjorden (MN) camp or in my Intermediate Norwegian classes, they should be able to complete advanced level assignments. (Please review the Intermediate 2 Norwegian class description to decide whether or not to enroll the student in advanced Norwegian). This class will take place solely in Norwegian. I will teach using slides, screen shares for grammar/vocab practice and some games. My teaching style differs based on what student's learn best from (visual, auditory or kinetic). Topics such as current events and typical cultural differences may also be covered via video/newspaper clips. Weekly topics covered will include: Week 1: Review of the Intermediate 2 Norwegian curriculum Week 2: Nationalities, immigration and social justice changes in Norway Week 3: Occupations and how to acquire work in Norway after high school Week 4: The Norwegian Political System: its many political parties and recent prime minister bios Week 5: Norway's Labor Laws, their history and how they differ from the U.S. (sick leave, paternity leave, leaves of absence) Week 6: Norway's role in the U.N. along with its role in combatting climate change Besides these topics, we'll work on grammar from the resource "Interaktive grammatikkoppgaver for internasjonale studenter", as well as read and discuss articles from Dagbladet, VG and Aftenposten.
