Simmons is a 14 year old who is starting high school with a promising future both academically and in sports. He has a 4.0 GPA and has no criminal history. In an attempt to get enough money to go to basketball camp he agrees to help a friend rob a house during the day when no one is home. The kids are unarmed and enter the home, to their surprise there is an elderly woman home who they startle. She immediately had a heart attack and dies as a result of the shock. The law will treat the kids as adults and charge them with 1st degree murder. Should this be the case? Join this class, become the attorney and you will get a chance to tell me. The class will require some mock trial experience as we will be building on concepts learned in an introductory mock trial class. Class 1- We will go over the facts in detail and you will decide if you want to be a prosecutor or a defense attorney. Class 2- You will present your opening statement and we will go over witness questioning. Class 3- You will question witnesses, both direct and cross examination. You will also get to object to opposing counsel if their questions are improper. Class 4- You will present your closing statement and we will discuss some of the implications of the statute in this case and what the appropriate punishment should be. If you have taken Mock Trial (not just with me) and are looking for a challenge then join me as we learn and apply the law to this case!
