Advanced Keyboarding / Typing Using Games, Contests, and Drills in Nearpod!

Give your learner the gift of typing-efficiency for the rest of their lives! This ongoing course will help to increase memorization of the keyboard (to master touch-typing) and increase typing speed. Using contests, games, and typing drills, learners will practice the keyboard while having fun! Each week will include a new theme (see syllabus) and new interactive slides on Nearpod. Not only will learners be typing drills, but they will also interact with the keyboard by doing timed quizzes, drag and drop slides, drawing slides, and contests with other learners. These activities will increase memorization of the keyboard. I will assign practice games between classes specific to the skills/keys we worked on during the lesson that week. 

Learners should come to this class having already learned proper finger placement on the keys. However, at the beginning of each class period I will do a brief review of the keyboard for new learners and as a review for already established learners. 

I do ask that learners come prepared for class with their color-coded keyboard charts printed out, as these will help them to play the games and contests and keep their fingers on the correct keys. I am here to guide and encourage your learners as they interact with the slides and games/drills. Copy/pasting of drills is not allowed so - parents - please pop in from time to time to be sure your learner is typing the drills the old fashioned way: one key at a time :)

A tracking sheet (pdf) will be provided upon registration. This will allow learners to track which lessons they have/have not attended and record their homework game scores.

Lesson 1: The Circus
Keyboard review

Time to Climb - match fingers with letter keys
Typing Contest: type as many words that begin with letter A as you can in 2 minutes
Sentence drills (circus/clown theme!)
Number drills 
Drag and Drop - fill in the missing keys and describe which finger types them
