I know I am!

*** PLEASE READ BEFORE ENROLLING: This is the second part to a yearlong course. It is not a beginner course. It is assumed that learners taking the class are already fairly comfortable with most of the basic elements of IEW style (dress-ups, sentence openers, and decorations) and models of structure. Please feel free to reach out with any questions! ***

Each week we will have a history-based writing lesson focusing on stories of the past. This includes a lesson in:
* a specific subject and structure.
* stylistic techniques to enhance your writing.
* an introduction to new vocabulary words
* writing practice.

I am a huge fan of reinforcing concepts with gameplay so, if time allows, I often try to include some kind of activity to keep learners engaged and solidify what they're learning. These may include Kahoot, Gimkit, or other games created by me.

The first semester of this course takes place over sixteen (16) weeks meeting one time per week.

The second semester picks back up starting with Lesson 17. There are 32 lessons in the advanced curriculum.
Learning Goals
Students will write many variations of the basic essay model, including responses to literature, literary analysis, timed essays, a super-research essay (9–13 paragraphs), a contrast essay, narrative essays, personal essays, and persuasive essays.
Students will learn MLA format including in-text citations of sources.

Parental Guidance
IEW is a wonderful writing program but, especially in the beginning, is best for those who have writing support at home. While the content is not the most important part of the program, being able to follow the directions and guidance supplied in class and the workbooks is. Gimkit, Blooket, and Kahoot! will be used for gameplay as an assessment tool in addition to what learners write in class. Please note that an account is not required. The game code will be sent to learners during class. Google Suites products (Docs, Slides, Forms) will be used to present materials and submit writing assignments. Students are welcome to use the writing tool that best suits their needs and is approved by each family.
Pre-Requisites
THIS IS NOT A BEGINNER COURSE: It is assumed that learners taking the class are already fairly comfortable with most of the basic elements of IEW style (dress-ups, sentence openers, and decorations) and models of structure.
Supply List
The IEW workbook is a requirement for this course.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in English from University of Tennessee - Knoxville
As a lifelong learner, I too am always striving for growth. After years of using the IEW curriculum, I decided I wanted to share what I had learned with others and became a registered instructor with IEW. (Link for verification: https://iew.com/events-classes/instructors/find-accredited-instructor/330449) I have also been a tutor (teacher) for a local classical co-op, studied through literature seminars, and attended practicums to enhance my own reading and writing knowledge.

I am also a certified TESOL/TEFL/EYL teacher, professional writer, beta reader, proofreader, editor, and homeschool mom. I have a love for the English language (I have a BA in English to prove it), the smell of new books, and transferring ideas from mind to paper. My goal is to promote a love of learning while offering a safe and fun environment. I truly have a passion for reading and writing and would love to share my knowledge and experience with your children.
