Intermediate - Advanced Level
This is a follow up class to my beginning level judging/conformation course, however, all students who have had at least some practice judging horses, but are still looking to advance their terminology and refine their reasons will find this class helpful. Students will practice judging horses and presenting a “set” of reasons. We will learn more advanced level, useful vocabulary to better structure our reasons and more traits to identify when judging horses. Slides will be shown to illustrate this terminology and the horses we discuss. Materials required to complete this class are posted in the supply list section below. Class 1: Students will dissect oral reasons and how they are judged and presented. We will each create an outline best suited for us as individuals to use in competition. Students will select vocabulary, phrases and terms to structure a set of reasons in a systematic way. Class 2: Students will break down and identify new traits to use in their judging as we take a closer look at bone structure, balance and quality, and tracking. Students will expand upon their reasons with this additional terminology. Class 3: Students will work together to practice using everything they gained from the first week to judge a class of horses and format their reasons. Class 4: We will end the class by participating in a mock judging class and presenting our final reasons. This is an intermediate to advanced level course. Beginners will find my “Beginning Horse Judging: Conformation” class a better fit.
Learning Goals
Students will expand upon explaining the conformation of individual horses as well as why horses rank higher or lower in a class.
Students will learn more advanced level, useful vocabulary to better structure a set of reasons.
