Advanced Level
The first two 55 minute classes I will introduce phrases, including prepositional phrases, appositive phrases, and participial phrases. We will build upon the use of phrases in the next section on complements. The third 55 minute class will continue phrases if needed then transition to transitive and intransitive verbs with objects and indirect objects. The following 55 minute class the learner will learn linking verbs with subject and verb complements. . The fifth class we will study how to identify every word and phrase in a sentence type to improve sentence construction and understanding. We will also learn by doing in class exercises covering the 12 verb tenses and how to recognize them. This is part of how to write a better sentence. This section helps with improving writing skills and will help learners make fewer mistakes with point of view and verb tenses. I will post homework after each class with exercises to practice what we learned. It is extremely important for learners to complete the homework assignments as each class will build upon lessons learned in previous classes. Learner progress will be evaluated by completed homework.
Learning Goals
Students will learn to recognize all parts of speech, sentence patterns, and how sentences are constructed, so they may become better writers.
