In this multiday course, we will dive into Elapids, a large family of venomous snakes that live throughout the world. We will discuss evolution, diet, reproduction, habitat, taxonomy and morphology. This will be a lecture style course that will encourage questions and discussion about the topic. We will utilize pictures and videos of these amazing creatures to better understand how complex they really are. I enjoy class discussions about the topic at hand and learners will be encouraged to do so. No prerequisite is required, come ready to learn. Day 1 - Evolutionary history of the elapid family, anatomy and taxonomy Day 2 - Elapids of the Americas Day 3 - African and Asian Elapids Day 4 - Australian Elapids We will look into what makes this family of snakes so different and more deadly than any other species. Through an understanding of how venom works with the body and why, to what are these snakes so diverse and spread throughout the globe.
