Advanced Level
In this 4 lesson class we will be exploring higher levels of drawing. We will be doing exercises to help improve drawing skills, as well as creating great artwork. Students will create sketches and one drawing project a week. The class will be fun and will give students freedom in the subject matter that they chose to draw. Week 1Lesson 1Large Scale Still Life DrawingThis week, we're tackling a giant still life project! Pick a captivating corner of your room, brimming with textures, colors, or personal treasures. We'll draw it over several days, incorporating gesture drawing to capture the scene's essence. Feeling rusty? Watch the linked video (beginner-friendly!) to refresh your memory on gesture drawing.Week 2Lesson 2Self PortraitsGet ready to explore the fascinating world of self-portraits this week! Don't worry if the idea isn't thrilling – drawing your own face is a fantastic way to learn and improve your skills. Need a quick reminder on facial proportions? Check out the linked video from a previous class to refresh your memory on feature placement. Let's create some self-portraits that capture your unique personality!Week 3Lesson 3Toned Paper DrawingThis week, we're exploring the magic of toned paper! Watch my video for a deep dive, but grab some grayscale paper if you can find it (alternatives in the video!). Remember, the toned paper acts as your "middle value" – add white for highlights and regular pencil for darks. You can even practice a value scale on a scrap piece to get the hang of it. Let's create stunning art on toned paper!Week 4Lesson 4Unconventional Creative DrawingThis week, we're on a treasure hunt – but the prize is in your own home! Grab your sketchbook and pencils because we're creating a one-of-a-kind drawing using everyday objects. The possibilities are endless, so unleash your inner artist and see what unique combinations you can come up with!
I would recommend the Beginning Drawing and/or the Intermediate class before this class, but I don't require those classes. It's just a recommendation.
