Class Experience

In this class, we will be learning how to bake and decorate using professional style techniques to create a "Nailed It" inspired masterpiece. (The masterpiece selected will change every class section, so it will ALWAYS be a new surprise!)

We will discuss the basics of baking: accurate measuring, how to choose ingredients, and baking techniques. This is a hands on and participation based class! It is designed to be fun and interactive! Don't take yourself too seriously, remember half the fun is being able to laugh at the mishaps!
Your student does need some prior knowledge of working in the kitchen with a mixer and oven (adult supervision/assistance is recommended when handling the oven) and will need to be able to keep up a moderate pace with instructions.

This is an intermediate baking class and intended to build knowledge in a fun filled way! This will be a energetic experience using step-by-step instructions and opportunity for questions as we go. I will be utilizing demonstration and discussion methods to provide information to students, as well as reference recipes that can be printed and referred back to.

How this class works:
Prior to class, students will receive a supply list and basic recipes (such as a cake recipe and frosting recipe). Some recipes may require prep prior to class.
At the beginning of class I will reveal what they will be attempting, and give some instructions on how to accomplish their task.
Then students will begin their creations and I will offer suggestions and help as needed.
While some elements are baking or during "down time" we will discuss personal interests, baking experiences, etc for some social interaction.
At the end of class, awards will be given for:
Most Accurate
Most Epic Flop
Most Creative

And remember: it's all for fun! Sometimes the flops are the best!
Can't wait to bake with you!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello families!
I am so excited to meet your student and share an exciting class with them!
I specialize in culinary classes for children of all ages, as well as early childhood education/development skills.
I have a bachelor degree in Early Childhood and a master degree in Special Education. I have been a licensed teacher since 2010, and I am a special education early childhood teacher, as well as running my private baking business. (On IG @sugarspiceandeverythingiced or @teacherlizw)
I enjoy offering classes that are active and engaging through hands-on opportunities to learn. I encourage students to ask the "why" and "how" questions and use their problem solving skills.
In addition to culinary classes, I offer private tutoring on subjects of your child's need. As a special education teacher, helping student's problem solve and develop learning skills is a passion.
I do not have my auto booking availability listed at this time, but if you would like a section added, please feel free to message me! I will accommodate to the best of my ability!
I do offer private classes for parties, Scout troops, and charter schools - Message me for more information!

My husband and I have 4 children: 3 girls and 1 boy. I enjoy baking and decorating cakes in my free time and running long-distance for exercise.
I am looking forward to our classes together!
