Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 7
Intermediate Level
This is an intermediate Spanish class for Advanced Beginner learners who are already familiar with some basic Spanish vocabulary and some verb conjugation. We utilize a popular and researched based learning method called TPRS

How do I know if this class is right for my learner?

Prerequisites include knowledge of the following:
The verbs estar, tener, gustar, ser, ir and some other common verbs. You may not know how to conjugate them, but you are familiar with what they mean.

Basic vocabulary, which means you already know words like: days of the week, colors, numbers, clothing words, food, family, animals, greetings, house vocabulary so on. You may have already taken several weeks of my beginners Spanish classes.

You may not know how to put those words together yet to form sentences or read or write stories or conjugate verbs. We will work on this together using TPRS techniques with comprehensible input.

Goals of our class:
The goal of this class will be to work on conversation, fluency and comprehension while applying the vocabulary you already know with sentences, conversations and reading and comprehending short comprehensible stories that the teacher writes.
Each class we will
1. Practice a vocabulary set. We do what is called circling around the set of vocabulary that we will see in our story.
2. Use the vocabulary set in context to read and or illustrate, act out, retell and answer short comprehensible questions about the story
3. Discuss and apply one present tense verb from the story
4. Following class: Extra practice is provided in the classroom. These are not required but there are suggestions of how to practice retelling the story, comprehension questions, and verb conjugation practice

The class will follow a similar pattern each week as noted in steps 1-4, but the text will change. For example

September 3rd- El alce y Gabi- Verb gustar- to like
September 10th- Los amigos van de pesca- Coger- to catch
September 17th- El pez de hielo- viajar- to travel
September 24th- Un explorador profesional- volar- to fly
October 1st- Gabi el pesca en el hielo- caer- to fall
October 8th- Detectivo Jorge- ganar- to win
October 15th- El pastor grita- gritar- to yell
October 22nd- La oveja inteligente- decir- to say
October 29th- El lobo aburrido- escuchar- to listen
