US Grade 9 - 12
Advanced Level
In this 4-week self-paced course, we will be learning about the fundamentals of Algebra II, starting with solving equations, inequalities, and systems of equations. Then we will focus on strategies of factoring polynomials. This is an advanced level course and will go at a faster pace at times. We will also cover more rigorous problems at an in depth level. Students who take this course should have completed an entire Algebra I curriculum at a high level of mastery, have a passion for learning mathematics, and have a potential interest in pursuing a career in a STEM field. The topics for these first two units are listed below:

Week 1
Day 1 - Subsets of the Real Number System
Day 2 - Linear Equations, Linear Inequalities, Set-builder and Interval Notation
Day 3 - Compound Inequalities
Day 4 - Absolute Value Inequalities

Week 2
Day 1 - Linear Systems of 3 Variables
Day 2 - Multiplying Polynomials
Day 3 - Binomial Expansion
Day 4 - GCF and Trinomials with Leading Coefficient of 1

Week 3
Day 1 - Difference of Squares and Perfect Square Trinomials
Day 2 - Trinomials with Leading Coefficient Not 1; Factoring by Grouping
Day 3 - Sum and Difference of Cubes
Day 4 - All Factoring Techniques

Week 4
Day 1 - Literal Equations
Day 2 - Zero Product Property
Day 3 - Completing the Square and Quadratic Formula
Day 4 - Quadratic and Polynomial Inequalities

I will post a lesson video and accompanying documents (classwork and homework) for the first four days of each week. Students are expected to watch the video and take notes on the material that is delivered. I will then prompt students to pause the video and work on the classwork problems independently. After they have done that, they can continue to watch the video and see my explanations for the classwork problems. This is a great way for them to assess themselves immediately and know where they are comfortable and where they need extra practice. 

After students complete the classwork and watch through the lesson video, they will be able to work on the homework for that day. I highly encourage students to submit their homework to me on each of the first four days of the week when lesson videos are uploaded. This allows me to give actionable feedback so they can learn from their mistakes and use what they learn when they view future lesson topics. 

On the fifth day of each week, I will post the solutions to the four homeworks from that week. Students can grade their own assignments at this time and reach out to me for further feedback if needed.

Since this is designed to be a flexible schedule course with no live meetings, we will not be meeting synchronously on a Zoom session. However, I encourage you to post any questions you have about each day's material (whether it be from the lesson, the classwork, or the homework) onto our classroom page so that I can assist you. In the past, I have found that students who are the most active on the classroom page in asking questions are the ones who get the most out of the course. Never be afraid to ask for help! And most importantly, have fun! Learning is only exciting as you let it be!
