Advanced Academic Writing: Literature Review

Class
Whether you write a Literature Review for the Advanced Placement (AP) Research course or engage in any other type of research with the purpose of producing a research paper, this course can help.

Class experience

US Grade 9 - 12
Advanced Level
The students will: 
1.	review the components of a research project (i.e., Introduction and Literature Review, Method, Process or Approach, Results, Product, or Findings, Discussion Analysis, and/or Evaluation, Conclusion, limitations and Future Directions, and References/Bibliography.
2.	 (a) understand the connection between the research question, literature review, and research design; (b) identify a topic of inquiry; (c) draft the research question and begin selecting evidence aligned with the goal of inquiry in order to effectively support claims.
*The students will gather at least 10 different peer-reviewed articles for their literature review.
3.	(a) access and gather scholarly articles on the topic of inquiry; (b) evaluate the evidence/sources for relevance, significance, and most important credibility.
4.	 (a) analyze evidence about what is already known on the topic for the purpose of identifying a research gap; (b) identify, compare, and interpret multiple perspectives on or arguments about the topic on inquiry; summarize and explain the main ideas in the scholarly articles gathered; (c) synthesize information.
5.	continue with the synthesis of information enclosed in the ten peer-reviewed articles gathered.
6.	(a) refine the review of previous work in the field connected to the research question of the scholar and clearly identify the gap in the field that will be addressed by the research project; (b) revisit the research question and ensure that the literature review aligns with the research question; (c) ensure that the writing is coherent with proper transitions, effective, free of spelling and grammar errors, clear and precise (d) verify if the sources were properly cited and included in the reference list.

The scholars will select peer-review articles from online databases available to them such as EBSCO, ProQuest, JSTOR, Google Scholar. these articles will be aligned with the topic of inquiry.
