I have been teaching dance for the past 3 years, and I have taught beginner/intermediate level dance in Ballet, Tap, Jazz and Lyrical. In addition, I have choreographed many middle school productions. I also have a minor in dance, Early Childhood Education and a BA in Psychology.
I do recommend each child to have something that can take place as a "Ballet Barre" such as a chair, door knob or door handle or the end/bottom of a banister (If one can not use these items, they can use the center floor). I also recommend having a tennis ball or a ball around the size of it 4-5 inches round object (This item will be used to practice proper hand technique) and a piece of paper and a writing utensil to write down for the history/terminology portion of class.
1 hour per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Students will be participating in a physical fitness/movement activities throughout the class. Please be aware that your child can end up injuring themselves. Therefore please make sure your child has sufficient dance space, proper footwear (choice of ballet shoes or barefoot/socks). I encourage all students to have a water bottle nearby and the student warm up (stretching) before class to avoid injury. Parental supervision is strongly encourage to help your dancer assure there safety and spatial
