During this four-week class, we will explore how to develop strong college admissions essays. In the first session, we will discuss what different colleges are looking for in applicants, and what you can do to target your essays to reflect your strengths. We will apply specific strategies for reviewing college websites and application components, and brainstorm strategies for emphasizing student strengths in applications. I have a PhD and MA in English from the University of Texas and a BA in English from the University of Cambridge. I have taught and tutored college-level writing for over a decade, and I have worked successfully with students on college applications for several years.
Students will be expected to work on drafts for their essays between classes. Students are able to share drafts with me via email between classes as well.
1 hour per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
