In this one time class, children ages 6 through ten will learn about what having ADHD means, how it isn't a limitation, and strategies that can help.

Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 4
Beginner Level
This one time class is introductory. The class will discuss what ADHD is, will embrace it as a strength, and will review several strategies and tools. This class is informative and the strategies discussed are not treatment or counseling but rather educational in nature.

The focus of the class will be on putting the different tools that students learn about to work. We will practice deep breathing, strategies to sustain attention, and techniques to deal with impulsivity. We will incorporate practicing chunking, utilizing movement breaks, and using fidgets to focus, into our class. Lots of examples will be given and there will be active practice using the strategies suggested. This class uses multimodal instruction. Incorporating videos, hands on learning, activities, and discussion students can learn new strategies with ease. 

The class is structured in the following way:
-Check In/Meet Our Class (5 minutes)
-Lesson: What is ADHD?  ( 12 minutes)
-Movement break  (3 minutes)
-Strategy Introduction/Practice: Developing a Toolkit of Strategies (15 minutes)
-Wrap-up/ Student Show and Tell (5 minutes)

This class is open to students with learning differences. There are many ways to participate in class. Shy learners are also welcome!

Learning Needs
This class is neurodivergent affirming. The teacher has experience working with students with diverse learning needs, ADHD, autism, and learning disabilities.
Parental Guidance
This class will not be therapeutic in nature. The purpose of this class is to be an informative where students can learn new information and general strategies. ADHD is discussed in a general informative way.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

I have many years of experience working with students in various settings. I have a graduate degree in School Psychology. Currently, I work as a School Psychologist serving students in grades K through 12. I have attended various trainings on working with students that have ADHD and am familiar with executive functioning coaching. My training and experience allows me to teach others about coping strategies, aspects of mindfulness, gratitude, and self care.
